Steps for certification

Gold Standard Certification of Forestry Projects

Background of Gold Standard Certification

The Gold Standard was founded in 2003 by WWF and other NGOs and is acknowledged by more than 80 NGOs as most important best practice standard to ensure projects that reduce carbon emissions or reduce greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The Gold Standard Certification sets highest benchmarks for positive impacts of climate and other projects and covers several topics as renewable energy, water resources and quality, bio gas and afforestation or re-afforestation. In addition to the positive impact due to reduction of carbon emissions or storage of greenhouse gases, certified projects contribute to a sustainable development by improving of livelihood, gender equity and improvement of health conditions.

As one of the leading Certification Bodies in the field of Forest Certification, GFA is listed by the Gold Standard as official Verification Body for forestry projects. The Gold Standard Certification can also be efficiently combined with a FSC or PEFC certification.

Forestry projects can generate income through the Gold Standard Certification by the sale of CO2 certificates, which are calculated by the amount of CO2 fixed in the trees.
